Balance & Fall Prevention
Feel More Steady. Move With More Confidence.
Balance affects more than walking. It can affect how confidently you get out of a chair, step into the shower, use stairs, walk outdoors, or move around your home.
If you're feeling unsteady or becoming more cautious about everyday movement, physical therapy can help you understand why and work toward safer, more confident mobility.
Where Balance Matters Most
- At Home: Moving between rooms, getting in and out of bed, using the bathroom, or stepping over obstacles.
- On the Stairs: Going up and down stairs with better control and confidence.
- Outside: Walking on sidewalks, uneven ground, ramps, or other changing surfaces.
- In Everyday Activities: Reaching, turning, carrying something, getting up from a chair, and changing direction.
What May Be Affecting Your Balance?
Balance can be influenced by many factors, including:
- Muscle weakness & reduced core stability
- Reduced flexibility or mobility in ankles, hips, or spine
- Changes in neurological coordination
- Difficulty with walking or gait symmetry
- Inner-ear dizziness or vestibular problems
- Reduced reaction time
- Previous falls or anxiety/fear of falling
What Treatment May Include
Depending on your individual evaluation, your program may include:
- Static and dynamic balance challenges
- Lower-body, hip, and core strengthening
- Gait and walking retraining
- Coordination and agility exercises
- Flexibility and mobility work
- Step and stair training
- Safe transfer training (chair, bed, tub)
- Vestibular or dizziness-related exercises when appropriate
- Education on home safety, footwear, and fall prevention
